The Body Shop is an English cosmetics brand. It communicates a lot about its values, the protection of the environment and fair trade. It is one of the first to have combined nature, innovation and performance in their products. The brand came into existence on March 26, 1976. The very first boutique was opened in Brighton in the south of England by Anita Roddick. Two years later, their first franchise opened in Brussels. In 1982, every month two new shops are created.
The year 1985 marks the transition to the status of Society Anonyme. It's also the brand's first major campaign sponsoring a Greenpeace poster campaign. Its commitment to the environment will never falter; on the contrary, the brand will always claim its attachment to Nature. In 1987, it had its first "fair trade" product manufactured by a company in southern India. The geographical expansion of reaches peaks in the 90s with their arrival in the United States. The company receives more than 2,500 franchise applications. Its products are selling well and it is present in 39 countries. In 1990, a Foundation was created to support associations of defense of human rights to support many campaigns. The trademark does not stop there since the president Anita Roddick also creates a New Academy of Business in 1995. These are management courses taught at the University of Bath to raise awareness among chefs enterprise to environmental, ethical and social issues. In 1997, it celebrated a 21st birthday with a total change in the layout of the stores which earned prestigious awards. It became part of the L'Oreal group from 2006.
