In 1915, an Englishman named L.A. Jackson founded the London Rubber Company (LRC) in a small apartment in London to sell condoms imported from Germany. In 1929, the LRC registers the brand Durex, whose name means "Durability", "Reliability", and “Excellence". And not "Durable Latex" as the legend says. The first condoms manufactured in the 30's used a brand new material for the time: latex in liquid form that can be applied to molds to create a condom. In 1951, the London Rubber Company started the first fully automated condom production line. In 1953, LRC engineers developed the first electronic condom test, which increased the reliability rate.
"Sex plays a fundamental role in our well-being," says Durex. The condom is an invention that goes back 3,000 years and is comparable to a case for the sex of the man. Fortunately, the ease of use has evolved and with 100 years of experience, we have the world leader of the soft industry.
Durex is at the origin of many innovations in the field of condoms:
• The first condom lubricated in 1957 (previously you had to add lubricant yourself).
• The first anatomically shaped condom launched in 1969.

• The first male condom without latex.
After the Second World War, it became No. 1 in the UK. It shortly decided to launch in Europe, under the London and Hatu brands. Today the company controls 50% of the European market. In the United States, the brand begins by buying the American manufacturer Julius Schmidt and the Ramses and Sheik, well known there at the time. The 80s and 90s were years of innovation. The range extended to 9 varieties including latex or polyurethane. In 1999, SSL International acquired the brand.
