The birth of this piano-less Bud Shank sextet occurred in Shank's Port Townsend home in Washington in July 1993 following it's annual Jazzfest. The notion of a sextet without a piano was shared with tenor and soprano saxophonist Bill Perkins and the other members of the sextet (Conte Candoli on trumpet, Jack Nimitz on baritone sax, John Clayton on bass and Sherman Ferguson on drums).
